Haunted House

Journal Entry: Thu Aug 25, 2011, 10:56 AM

Psycho Studios

For the last few months, I've had the pleasure of being part of the art team for Psycho Haunted House here in Atlanta.  I can't reveal the theme yet...but I promise you it is amazing and I've been fangirling nonstop.

Closer to Haunt season I'll have more information for you guys. This haunted house is very much the baby of all of those involved and we our pouring out hearts into it. The team working on it is also badass, focusing on scaring the shit out of everyone who comes to experience the haunt.

And I will go ahead and say this. One of my biggest annoyances are cheesy, stupid haunted houses. You know the type...super cheap looking, pg rated, obviously made by people with no clue what they are doing and no passion for horror. I assure you, we are not that. At all.

The facebook page is here www.facebook.com/PsychoStudios so like us and keep checking back! And while you're at it, check out the horror convention coming to Atlanta, Days of the Dead www.daysofthedead.net/Atlanta

Anyone going to DragonCon? I AM. I think I'll be cosplaying, too. Not sure on that one yet...the character I'm REALLY wanting to cosplay as is Suzy X horror-movies.wikia.com/wiki/T… from El Superbeasto but I don't know how well her nazi uniform would go over.
Are you going? What are you wearing? This year I plan to NOT pass out and sleep through the rave. I'm a winner.

ALSO
I know I know, I said I was going to close my commissions but then I became unemployed. Back to being a starving artist, my life's destiny.
My price list is here if you're interested: violatekate.deviantart.com/art…

buzz bitch buzz

At the beginning of the month Metropark, the retail chain I've been working for for the last 3 years, announced that it was filing for bankruptcy. They sent us all a note saying that our jobs were secure, they had potential buyers, and that they predicted we would be out of bankruptcy within 90 days. That afternoon, I got a call from Betsey Johnson asking me to come in for an interview.

The next day Metropark informed us they would be closing down all of the stores and we would have 3 weeks to find another job. All of the DMs were fired, as well as almost all of the home office. The stores went into liquidation process. The NEXT day, we were told that we would be completely closed down within 6 days.

My final day was May 10th. I had already had my interview with Betsey and I was waiting to hear back from them. That weekend I went to my mom's house in SC to decompress. While I was there, Betsey called me and informed me that I would be the new stylist and I was to start on May 16th. So it all worked out. My hours had been cut back so drastically at Metropark that I haven't been used to working as much as I am at Betsey so needless to say...I'm exhausted.

On top of all of that, someone who I assumed was a friend was making money off of my art behind my back. She worked at a tattoo shop up the street from me. In the last year, I've had countless friends of hers warn me that she copied my artwork, but I never had any real proof and her stuff was different enough from mine for me to brush it off.

So Vlixx (and 2 other friends of mine) goes to the tattoo shop while she is off and asks the owner if he has seen my dA page. He goes to type it in the shop's computer, it automatically fills it in. He pulled it up and the owner goes "Oh, *chick's name* is on that page all day. She prints out the drawings, traces them, and redraws them. She also plays on that dressup flash game and comes up with outfits from it." He had NO clue it was my page. So when I call her out on it, she immediately starts playing dumb. Her roommate jumps on her page insulting me while this chick goes and says that I ruined her life.  So...whatever.

PLUS my roommate's father passed away and I'm one week in to a two week housesitting job for a friend who has 10 pets. The most annoying dog known to man, a cat with 5 kittens, and 3 birds. So I have been a bit busy. My commission list seems neverending right now. Hah. YEP.

Who Should I Draw??

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 15, 2011, 11:59 PM

Japan Benefit Show

First of all, I want to give a great big fat THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who has donated/spread the word about my commissions. I've been overwhelmed from the love, I can't thank you guys enough.

When the earthquake/tsunami hit Japan roughly a month ago, I (like just about everyone else) was heartbroken. Japanese culture has been one of the biggest influences on me for almost 15 years now. Japan has influenced my art style, my clothes, my design aesthetic, my love for being myself, and has produced some of my favorite films of all time.

But I've been in a rut. I have had no expendable money to donate and have been at a loss for how to help out. So I sat back, watched everyone around me donate and contribute, and just updated CNN.com constantly and felt guilty. A few days ago, one of the galleries here in Atlanta, The Doo Gallery, announced it was doing a Japan Benefit art show and needed contributions. So I jumped on it and signed up immediately.

So for the show, I'm going to be doing some inexpensive prints so that everyone can afford them and help contribute! I'm going to be doing pinups of recognizable Japanese characters. So far I've decided on Sailor Moon, a Battle Royale girl, Rei Ayanami, and Chun Li. I need more suggestions!

Suggest me some recognizable Japanese characters to draw!
It doesn't have to be anime or video game related. And nothing obscure! I want to make sure these babies sell!!

KateNote Please excuse any awful grammar/nonsensical wording right now. Medicine has me all loopy.

AviS

Journal Entry: Fri Mar 18, 2011, 11:15 AM

3/17/11

On February 8, 2011, a friend of mine committed suicide. Her name was Kim, aka SivA. Her husband is the bassist of Helltrash, AviS. Her loss destroyed him. He was a lost soul, barely of this world, relying on us for just about everything.

Yesterday he decided it was too much and took his own life. We are deeply affected by his loss and send our love to everyone who knew him. He and Kim were a beautiful couple and had two gorgeous children. It is a crime that the children's memory of them will fade over time.

I am in deep mourning right now, but I will be ok. Once again, if you are struggling with the thoughts of suicide, PLEASE get help. Please reach out to those around you and take care of yourself

1-800-SUICIDE

Love you all
Kate

Ground Zero

Journal Entry: Fri Feb 18, 2011, 1:25 PM

More on the Suicide

First of all, I'd like to say thanks to the support I've been receiving after a beloved friend's death. Her memorial service was on Valentine's Day and it was a heartbreaking night. But that isn't what this post is about. Well...entirely.

Tonight (2/18/11) my band Helltrash was to be playing a show at Ground Zero in Spartanburg, SC. Seeing as how our bassist's wife was the one who passed away, our manager sent a message to the owner letting him know we regretfully had to cancel. Not only are all of us grieving over the loss of her, but we wouldn't be able to replace the bassist in time to play. We assumed he would understand. NOPE.

The owner of Ground Zero in Spartanburg SC wrote us back an angry email basically telling us to suck it up and play anyway. He was very rude, told us that he himself opened up the club the day his brother passed away, and had NO compassion whatsoever. So I'd like to say a giant FUCK YOU to this guy. Not everyone deals with death the same way you do, chode monkey.

Here is our official response if you want to read it vampirefreaks.com/journal_comm…

Suicide

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 8, 2011, 5:52 PM

RIP

One of my friends decided to take her life today. All day I've had to tell people who loved her what she did to herself and hear them break down over the news. I'm completely numb right now.

This is the second time I've been forced to deal with suicide. It is the most selfish act that someone can do. If you feel as though suicide is your only choice, know this: You DO have people who love you. You will destroy the lives of those closest to you and hurt the ones you love. Please talk to someone and get help. Nobody should have to deal with that.

Digital Art and Erotica

My friend Bill released his new book If. Else. If. and last night we attended his book release at Kip's house. It was my first time meeting Kip and he has a full vintage medical room in his house, holy shit (you can see pics of it here).

Bill is one of my favorite artists/photogs and it was a pleasure to work with him a few years back to produce this:
